Downtown Gardendale

Downtown Gardendale is the oldest part of the city and still the part that feels most like a town rather than a corridor. Main Street runs past the library, city hall, and the Civic Center, and it's where the Christmas parade and the Magnolia Festival happen. Homes here are older, lots are shaded, and you can genuinely walk to a few things — which is rare in North Jefferson County.

Housing

Mostly mid-century brick homes and modest cottages on established streets, with mature hardwoods and sidewalks in patches. It's the most affordable entry point into Gardendale proper and popular with first-time buyers and downsizers.

Schools

Zoned into Gardendale City Schools — Gardendale Elementary, Bragg Middle School, and Gardendale High School (the Rockets). Friday night football is the town's social calendar in the fall.

Getting around

Two minutes to I-65 exit 271 and roughly 15–20 minutes to downtown Birmingham outside of rush hour. US-31 through downtown is the local alternative when the interstate backs up.
